We regard the AOP Photography Awards as the definitive showcase of professional photographic excellence, widely acknowledged as the ‘Oscars’ of the industry. Competition Details

The 40th AOP Photography Awards is recognized as one of the most prestigious competitions in the photography industry, celebrating professional excellence in image-making. Open to AOP Accredited and Assisting Photographer members, the awards provide an opportunity for photographers to gain recognition, showcase their work, and connect with leading industry professionals. Entries include still photography, moving image, and innovation categories, with winners receiving prestigious Gold and Silver Awards. The winning works will be exhibited at the AOP Annual Showcase event in October 2025.

Usage Rights, Copyright & Moral Rights
Usage License

Entrants grant to the AOP a non-exclusive licence to use the work submitted for the purposes outlined
below:
The AOP and the partners of the Photography Awards reserve the non-exclusive right to display,
reproduce, adapt, modify and publish in any media, any successful entry, without payment, for a period of
up to 15 months from the announcement of the winners, for the sole purpose of promoting and
publicising the AOP and the AOP Awards programme which includes the Photography Awards, Open
Awards, AOP Projects and the Student Awards. The AOP also reserves the right to display all the successful
images on the AOP Awards website and archive the work for an indefinite period unless the Entrant
requests otherwise in writing to the AOP office. The Entrant will be credited whenever the work is
published or displayed on the AOP’s own platforms, accounts and channels.

Key Principles of Fair Usage.

  • Respect for copyright: Organizers should acknowledge and respect the photographer’s ownership of their work.
  • Limited use: Usage rights should be limited to purposes directly related to the marketing/promotion of the competition, photos and photographers.
  • Specific Usage: Detailed information regarding where the images will be used for the promotion of the competition, this should include websites, social media, partners website, media outlets, books & calendars etc.
  • Moral Rights: Photographers should be credited whenever their images are used. This includes publication and Media not owned by the organiser. Editing and manipulation of the images should be kept to a minimum.
  • License Duration: The usage license should be limited in time with a maximum of 5 years, but ideally less.
  • Compensation: Photographers should be compensated for commercial use of their images beyond promotional purposes. This can be detailed in the terms or by a separate agreement.

In essence, fair usage in a photo competition balances the organiser’s need to promote the competition, its winning entries and photographers, with the photographer’s right to control their work and receive any appropriate compensation.
