Competition Details

The Art League of Baytown (ALB) is hosting a juried exhibition for FotoFest 2026 with the theme “A Sense of Place.” This is the gallery’s fifth season participating in FotoFest.

Noted Houston gallery owner Catherine Couturier will serve as the juror, selecting up to 50 photographs for the exhibition.There is no time limit on image date. Submit your best images fitting within the theme regardless of when the image was taken. The selected works will be displayed at the ALB gallery from March 12 through May 16, 2026

The entry fee is $40 for up to five (5) images. However, you can enter as many as 10. Each entry after the first five is $6. Entry fees are non refundable.

All images must be for sale. The Art League of Baytown recieves 30% commission on all sales.

Artist’s recognition is provided with any use. By submission for jurying, artists whose submissions are chosen for the exhibition grant the Art League of Baytown the right to use their images for the purpose of promoting the artist, promoting ALB’s programs, promoting exhibitions and subsequent display on ALB’s website of current and past exhibitions, and represents that the artist created the image and has the right to make this grant of use.

Promotions and images may also be placed on social networks for the Art League of Baytown with artist credit.

Artists grant the use of their image(s) as stated without further contact or compensation from ALB.

We do run ads in print media at times promoting our events. Should your image(s) be selected for a printed promotion, you may be asked to provide ALB with digital image of higher resolution that the one submitted for the jury process.

Key Principles of Fair Usage.

  • Respect for copyright: Organizers should acknowledge and respect the photographer’s ownership of their work.
  • Limited use: Usage rights should be limited to purposes directly related to the marketing/promotion of the competition, photos and photographers.
  • Specific Usage: Detailed information regarding where the images will be used for the promotion of the competition, this should include websites, social media, partners website, media outlets, books & calendars etc.
  • Moral Rights: Photographers should be credited whenever their images are used. This includes publication and Media not owned by the organiser. Editing and manipulation of the images should be kept to a minimum.
  • License Duration: The usage license should be limited in time with a maximum of 5 years, but ideally less.
  • Compensation: Photographers should be compensated for commercial use of their images beyond promotional purposes. This can be detailed in the terms or by a separate agreement.

In essence, fair usage in a photo competition balances the organiser’s need to promote the competition, its winning entries and photographers, with the photographer’s right to control their work and receive any appropriate compensation.
