Competition Details

The PhiloPhoto Contest is an international photography competition that explores the relationship between philosophy and photography. This year’s theme, “From Darkness to Light,” invites photographers to capture the essence of transformation—whether physical, emotional, or metaphorical. The contest is open to photographers aged 18 and above, with a focus on artistic depth, conceptual storytelling, and technical mastery. Winning images will be showcased in an online gallery, and top photographers will receive cash prizes and honorary titles.

FEES: The fee for participation is $22 for uploading one photo, $38 for uploading two photos, $45 for uploading three photos

File Specifications: Files must meet the following specification:
– sRGB or Adobe98 colour space, 8-bit;
– Longest dimension: 1100 pixels;
– Saved as a JPG;
– No Watermarks / Copyright Units / Logos on images;
– Only bleed photographs without borders;
– maximum image size 1.5 MB

For awarded images, copyright holders grant the Philo-Photo Photography unlimited non-exclusive use of high-resolution images for activities in all media, including social media, online and print, in relation to the Competition and all promotional activities without any remuneration being due. Copyright holders of all awarded images grant the Philo-Photo Photography Awards non-exclusive use of low-resolution pictures on our website, without any remuneration being due. Images will be used strictly in connection to the awards and will not be used for any other marketing purposes other than to promote the Philo-Photo Photography Awards. Images will not be resold or used by any other third party. If there is a request for such, we will forward that request to the photographer via e-mail. To promote winners of the Philo-Photo Photography Awards, the right is granted to display images on social media websites (on our official profiles) including: Facebook and Instagram. You agree to participate in related publicity and to the use of your name and images for the purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity in connection with the competition without additional compensation. Philo-Photo Photography Awards and its media partners assume no responsibility and are not liable for any image misuse by external third parties.

Key Principles of Fair Usage.

  • Respect for copyright: Organizers should acknowledge and respect the photographer’s ownership of their work.
  • Limited use: Usage rights should be limited to purposes directly related to the marketing/promotion of the competition, photos and photographers.
  • Specific Usage: Detailed information regarding where the images will be used for the promotion of the competition, this should include websites, social media, partners website, media outlets, books & calendars etc.
  • Moral Rights: Photographers should be credited whenever their images are used. This includes publication and Media not owned by the organiser. Editing and manipulation of the images should be kept to a minimum.
  • License Duration: The usage license should be limited in time with a maximum of 5 years, but ideally less.
  • Compensation: Photographers should be compensated for commercial use of their images beyond promotional purposes. This can be detailed in the terms or by a separate agreement.

In essence, fair usage in a photo competition balances the organiser’s need to promote the competition, its winning entries and photographers, with the photographer’s right to control their work and receive any appropriate compensation.
