Competition Details

The reEarth International Art Prize, organised by reEarth Studio, is a competition for artists aged 4 to 25. Its goal is to foster a “Global Dialogue on Climate Change through Art” and to promote creative expression for a sustainable future.

reEarth is currently accepting submissions for its global art initiative focused on the theme of climate change. Artists can submit their work in a variety of visual mediums, including photography, painting, drawing, digital art, and illustration. An international jury of artists will be responsible for selecting the winners. In addition to being eligible for the International Art Prize, selected artworks will gain global exposure through showcases in online and physical exhibitions hosted in Auckland, New Zealand, and Vienna, Austria.

Submission Options: Applicants can apply individually or through their school or institution. You can send multiple entries in each category

Prize & Judging Details

The reEarth International Art Prize boasts a total prize pool of $50,000, comprising cash awards and additional prizes. The entry fee for an individual artist is $30 per artwork. There are also discounted rates for schools or groups submitting multiple artworks.

The competition offers cash prizes for the top three winners in each category:

1st Prize 4 x $1000

2nd Prize 4 x $750

3rd Prize 4 x $500

Jury’s Choice Award: 30 Prizes E-certificate

Honourable Mention: 150 Prizes E-certificate

Spotlight Selection: 500 Prizes E-certificate

Art Exhibitions: Sharjah, Auckland and Vienna for selected artworks

All Participating Artists: E-Certificates for all

Judging Process

Artworks will be judged based on creativity, originality, interpretation of the theme, technique, and overall impression.

The jury for the competition is composed of international artists and experts with a focus on climate change, including:

  • Françoise Callier: A festival curator and artist from France.
  • Christa Sommerer: A media artist and academic from Austria.
  • Rashid Rana: A leading contemporary artist from Pakistan.
  • Ali Bin Thalith: An underwater photographer and filmmaker from the United Arab Emirates.
  • Najat Makki: A pioneering Emirati colorist and abstract artist.
  • Marylise Vigneau: An award-winning documentary photographer and author based in Austria and Pakistan.
  • Stefano Fake: An immersive art and media innovator from Italy.
  • Aun Raza: A globally exhibited photographer from Austria and Pakistan.
  • Jerome De Perlinghi: A photographer and educator from the United States.
  • Sumayyah Al Suwaidi is a renowned digital artist and innovator from the United Arab Emirates.
  • Celange Beck: A climate sustainability expert from the United States.
  • Anton Sahler: An interactive and digital artist from Germany.

Key Principles of Fair Usage.

  • Respect for copyright: Organizers should acknowledge and respect the photographer’s ownership of their work.
  • Limited use: Usage rights should be limited to purposes directly related to the marketing/promotion of the competition, photos and photographers.
  • Specific Usage: Detailed information regarding where the images will be used for the promotion of the competition, this should include websites, social media, partners website, media outlets, books & calendars etc.
  • Moral Rights: Photographers should be credited whenever their images are used. This includes publication and Media not owned by the organiser. Editing and manipulation of the images should be kept to a minimum.
  • License Duration: The usage license should be limited in time with a maximum of 5 years, but ideally less.
  • Compensation: Photographers should be compensated for commercial use of their images beyond promotional purposes. This can be detailed in the terms or by a separate agreement.

In essence, fair usage in a photo competition balances the organiser’s need to promote the competition, its winning entries and photographers, with the photographer’s right to control their work and receive any appropriate compensation.
