Competition Details

The Artist Gallery has announced its Documentary Photography Contest 2025, inviting photographers worldwide to submit compelling work that goes beyond aesthetics. The competition focuses on images that reveal truths, explore cultures, witness change, and give a voice to untold stories.

Photographers are encouraged to submit their best shots, whether as a single striking photo or a series that builds a deeper narrative. The contest aims to showcase authentic experiences, social issues, and meaningful narratives from around the world. Participants have a chance to win exciting prizes and have their work featured in the gallery’s printed magazine.

Entry Fees:

1 photo = $11 ($9 before September 22nd)
3 photos = $28 ($22 before September 22nd)
5 photos = $38 ($31 before September 22nd)
10 photos = $59 ( $49 before September 22nd)
You can submit as many photos as you wish.

 

Additional Information

Photography requirements:

  • Only JPG (JPEG) files are accepted.
  • The smallest side has to have at least 1000 pixels.
  • The file should be of 12MB or less.
  • The photography must be about the theme of the contest.
  • Remove any watermark from the photo, any photography with watermark will be removed from the contest.
  • Photo edition like fixing exposure, contrast, sharping, color saturation is allowed. What is not allowed is to add or remove any element from the photo.
  • If the judges consider it necessary, they can ask for the original file, it is recommended that the photo has its metadata.
  • AI images are not allowed
  • Any submission that does not have all these requirements will be disqualified.

Prize & Judging Details
  • 1st place: 15% of the registration fees.
  • 2nd place gets 10% of the registration fees.
  • 3rd place gets 5% of the registration fees.
  • We will publish a blog about the photography career and aspirations of the best 3 photographers.
  • Up to 25 photographs will be shared in our social media channels and our photo gallery.
  • The best photographs will be also published in our printed magazine that will be sold globally.
  • Digital certificate for the best photographers.
  • Prizes to the best photographers from our partners
Judging Process

Our judges panel is made of two professional photographers with a great background in different areas​. The judges will score every photography considering different factors like creativity, technical skills, composition, etc.

The judges do not have access to any detail about the photographers, the judging process is completely anonymous.

The Artist Gallery has the right to use the photographs submitted in our contests for any purpose related with the Gallery like exhibitions, marketing, share it in our web page or our social networks.

The best photographs (Top 3 and honorable mentions) will be published in a special edition from Docu-Magazine and sold globally. If you do not want to include your photo or have any question about this send us an email to contact@theartistgallery.art

Docu Magazine doesn’t own the images, they only publish them. They won’t use them anywhere else, only in the special edition print publication.

The Artist Gallery only keeps the 25 best photographs and the participant information for internal usage, the photos and photographers’ name and location will be used publicly only to show it on exhibitions, our web page and social networks.

All the other photos that were not recognized are going to be deleted  two months after the contest has been closed

Key Principles of Fair Usage.

  • Respect for copyright: Organizers should acknowledge and respect the photographer’s ownership of their work.
  • Limited use: Usage rights should be limited to purposes directly related to the marketing/promotion of the competition, photos and photographers.
  • Specific Usage: Detailed information regarding where the images will be used for the promotion of the competition, this should include websites, social media, partners website, media outlets, books & calendars etc.
  • Moral Rights: Photographers should be credited whenever their images are used. This includes publication and Media not owned by the organiser. Editing and manipulation of the images should be kept to a minimum.
  • License Duration: The usage license should be limited in time with a maximum of 5 years, but ideally less.
  • Compensation: Photographers should be compensated for commercial use of their images beyond promotional purposes. This can be detailed in the terms or by a separate agreement.

In essence, fair usage in a photo competition balances the organiser’s need to promote the competition, its winning entries and photographers, with the photographer’s right to control their work and receive any appropriate compensation.
