Competition Details

The SE Center for Photography invites submissions for a new exhibition celebrating the timeless subject of the landscape. From the very beginning of the medium, landscapes have been a fundamental subject, helping to establish photography as a fine art. The SE Center is seeking images that capture the landscape in all its forms, whether through grand vistas or more personal, intimate interpretations. We are looking for work that makes a powerful statement, draws the viewer in, and inspires a desire to explore. The call is open to all photographers, regardless of skill level or location, and welcomes all processes, including black and white, color, analog, digital, and antique techniques.

The SE Center is committed to supporting artists, and as such, encourages the sale of prints during exhibitions. The gallery operates on a 0% commission basis, meaning the photographer receives 100% of the sale price for any work sold. If a print is purchased, it will be ordered directly from the photographer at the time of sale. Please note that images previously selected for an SE Center exhibition within the last two years are not eligible for submission.

Our juror for the Contemporary Landscape is Jeff Schewe, who has been an award winning Advertising Photographer in Chicago for over 30 years. He is accomplished in tabletop, location, portraiture and particularly accomplished in computer imaging

Entry Fees: $35 for up to 5 Images (Members, $28) $6 for each additional image up to 15 ( Members $5). No refunds for images not selected for inclusion.Juror

Key Principles of Fair Usage.

  • Respect for copyright: Organizers should acknowledge and respect the photographer’s ownership of their work.
  • Limited use: Usage rights should be limited to purposes directly related to the marketing/promotion of the competition, photos and photographers.
  • Specific Usage: Detailed information regarding where the images will be used for the promotion of the competition, this should include websites, social media, partners website, media outlets, books & calendars etc.
  • Moral Rights: Photographers should be credited whenever their images are used. This includes publication and Media not owned by the organiser. Editing and manipulation of the images should be kept to a minimum.
  • License Duration: The usage license should be limited in time with a maximum of 5 years, but ideally less.
  • Compensation: Photographers should be compensated for commercial use of their images beyond promotional purposes. This can be detailed in the terms or by a separate agreement.

In essence, fair usage in a photo competition balances the organiser’s need to promote the competition, its winning entries and photographers, with the photographer’s right to control their work and receive any appropriate compensation.
