The Zari Gallery proudly presents its inaugural Zari Photo Prize Competition, an international platform dedicated to discovering, celebrating, and showcasing exceptional photographic talent from across the globe. This momentous event welcomes photographers at all stages of their careers, offering a stage for both established artists and those on the verge of their breakthrough. The competition serves not only as a contest but also as a vital platform to elevate and introduce your work to London’s dynamic art scene and a wider global audience.

A significant aspect of the Zari Photo Prize is the opportunity for shortlisted works to be exhibited at the Zari Gallery, located in London’s prestigious West End, from August 7th to 21st, 2025. This exhibition offers international photographers unparalleled exposure and provides collectors with the chance to discover and acquire unique photographic prints at accessible prices. The Zari Photo Prize is driven by a mission to promote global creativity and excellence, showcase a diverse range of challenging and innovative works, facilitate opportunities for photographers to exhibit and sell in London, offer the public access to high-quality photography, and support a chosen charity annually, underscoring the gallery’s belief in the positive impact of art.

Acceptable Mediums:

Entries to the Zari Photo Prize must be photographic in nature and may include the following acceptable mediums:

  • Digital Photography: High-resolution digital images captured using any form of digital camera, including DSLRs, mirrorless, or mobile devices.
  • Film Photography: Scanned images from 35mm, medium, or large format film. Entrants must ensure scans are of exhibition quality.
  • Alternative Processes: Photographic works utilizing historical or experimental techniques such as cyanotype, tintype, photograms, or Polaroid transfers are accepted, provided the final image is presented as a photographic print.
  • AI generated photographs are not permitted

Submission Guidelines:

Artists are invited to submit up to 10 entries of works in the mediums digital photography, film photography or experimental techniques such as cyanotype, tintype, photograms, or Polaroid transfers. Please ensure that images are submitted in JPEG format, do not exceed 10 MB, and are recommended to be at 300dpi resolution with a maximum size of 960x4800px and a minimum width of 1600x to guarantee a high-quality presentation.

Selection Process:

The competition involves a two-stage selection process:

 Stage 1 (Online): Our jury will pre-select photographs based on submitted images. These images must accurately represent the entered works, which must be available for exhibition if shortlisted. This stage includes an online review of all submissions.

 Stage 2 (Finalists): All shortlisted work will be individually assessed by the judges, who will then select the Finalists.

 Stage 3 (Final Selection): From the finalists, winners for each category will be chosen by the judges, except for the public’s choice which will be determined by a online public vote.

Key Principles of Fair Usage.

  • Respect for copyright: Organizers should acknowledge and respect the photographer’s ownership of their work.
  • Limited use: Usage rights should be limited to purposes directly related to the marketing/promotion of the competition, photos and photographers.
  • Specific Usage: Detailed information regarding where the images will be used for the promotion of the competition, this should include websites, social media, partners website, media outlets, books & calendars etc.
  • Moral Rights: Photographers should be credited whenever their images are used. This includes publication and Media not owned by the organiser. Editing and manipulation of the images should be kept to a minimum.
  • License Duration: The usage license should be limited in time with a maximum of 5 years, but ideally less.
  • Compensation: Photographers should be compensated for commercial use of their images beyond promotional purposes. This can be detailed in the terms or by a separate agreement.

In essence, fair usage in a photo competition balances the organiser’s need to promote the competition, its winning entries and photographers, with the photographer’s right to control their work and receive any appropriate compensation.
