The TOKYO INTERNATIONAL FOTO AWARDS serves as a global platform to celebrate, acknowledge, and connect talented photographers with fresh perspectives and new audiences within Tokyo’s vibrant creative community. Welcoming submissions from photographers of all backgrounds and locations, this competition invites artists from around the world to share their unique photographic visions. It’s an opportunity to gain recognition and establish connections within Japan’s dynamic creative landscape

Professional:
$30 per single image
$40 per series ( 2-9 images with the same theme)
30% off per additional category, if same entry is submitted to multiple categories

Non-professional: 
$20 per single image
$25 per series (2-9 images with the same theme)
30% off per additional category, if same entry is submitted to multiple categories

Students: 
$15 per single image
$20 per series (2-9 images with the same theme)
30% off per additional category, if same entry is submitted to multiple categories

Portfolio category: Entry fee for the Portfolio Category is $50

Please note that there are no further fees for winners services.

Submission Guidelines:

Digital images should be in sRGB format and not exceed 4000 pixels and 4 MB per file. Save as JPG compression High, and minimum 1000 pixels on the longest side.

Usage License

Any images used by TIFA shall carry the photographer’s credit line. TIFA may use images in any media sponsor publication. All entrants understand that any image submitted to the competition may be used by TIFA for marketing and promotional purposes including in any medium such as exhibitions, print, and digital media directly related to the TIFA competition though there may not be monetary compensation. By winning or placing in the competition, you are agreeing to be included in the winner’s annual book. Neither Tokyo International Foto Awards affiliates or partners assume any responsibility for materials submitted in violation of competition rules or for those which violate copyright regulations.

Key Principles of Fair Usage.

  • Respect for copyright: Organizers should acknowledge and respect the photographer’s ownership of their work.
  • Limited use: Usage rights should be limited to purposes directly related to the marketing/promotion of the competition, photos and photographers.
  • Specific Usage: Detailed information regarding where the images will be used for the promotion of the competition, this should include websites, social media, partners website, media outlets, books & calendars etc.
  • Moral Rights: Photographers should be credited whenever their images are used. This includes publication and Media not owned by the organiser. Editing and manipulation of the images should be kept to a minimum.
  • License Duration: The usage license should be limited in time with a maximum of 5 years, but ideally less.
  • Compensation: Photographers should be compensated for commercial use of their images beyond promotional purposes. This can be detailed in the terms or by a separate agreement.

In essence, fair usage in a photo competition balances the organiser’s need to promote the competition, its winning entries and photographers, with the photographer’s right to control their work and receive any appropriate compensation.
