The Arte Laguna Prize, a prominent international competition dedicated to contemporary art, is celebrating its 20th anniversary by launching a major group exhibition in Shanghai, China. This milestone event cements the Prize’s status as a key platform for emerging global artists and fosters artistic exchange between Asia and the rest of the world.
The exhibition is scheduled to take place at the EKA-Tianwu in Shanghai, occupying a vast 1,500 square meters within a fully regenerated former factory. This unique location is transforming into a new cultural and economic hub, promising an immersive viewing experience that integrates various art forms.
Established in 2006, the Arte Laguna Prize is one of the world’s most influential awards in art and design. The celebratory exhibition will display 120 prize-winning and excellent works selected from around the globe, spanning diverse categories including painting, sculpture, photography, video, and digital art.
The opportunity is significant for the participating artists, as Shanghai is recognised as one of the most important and valued Contemporary Art markets globally. The exhibition will position emerging talents alongside established figures, drawing in a diverse audience of collectors, curators, gallerists, and enthusiasts ready to discover new artistic voices.
Arte Laguna Prize Founder Laura Gallon and Massimo Faranda, President of Ass.Cult. MoCA, continue to steer the competition, which is known for welcoming emerging artists regardless of age, country, or artistic background. The initiative is sponsored by official Italian institutions, underscoring its importance for international cultural promotion.
The exhibition, curated by Huang Yi and coordinated by Stefano Yang, will run for six weeks, with the artwork remaining in Shanghai for further collaboration and events well into the following year.
The artworks will then remain in Shanghai until April 30, 2026. The show at the EKA-Tianwu marks a vibrant new chapter in the Prize’s commitment to supporting professional development and global visibility for contemporary artists.
