Competition Details

The Decagon Gallery invites you to participate in its “Monday Open Call,” an opportunity to pause and finally bring forward the feelings and stories often postponed in the rush of everyday life. This call encourages you to dive into your inner world, look again at the photographs that matter most to you, and submit not just the image, but the story it holds. The premise is that a photograph can be more than just a picture; it can carry deep emotions, preserve what is fragile, and even serve as a turning point that changes how you view your life. This is your chance to make that reflective “Monday” a reality.

Choose one image that became a turning point in your life:

  • a concrete moment captured in the image,
  • a photograph that, for personal reasons, changed the course of your life,
  • a photo taken at a time that was deeply important to you.

Take a moment to sit down, reflect, and remember what this photograph means to you. Write a short note to yourself in that moment — warm, simple, human. It can be just one sentence, a few words, or a longer thought. What matters is that it comes from you. The letter may be:

  • handwritten on paper (you can photograph it and send it as an image — this will make the exhibition feel more alive and personal),
  • or typed, if you prefer.

Both the photo and the letter will be shown side by side — image and words together, like memory and meaning united. Your submission must include these two parts together:

  • one photograph,
  • and one letter to yourself.

They are inseparable — the photograph and the words complete each other. Monday Flash values both the artistic quality of your photograph and the truth of the story it carries. We are waiting for your story!”

★★★★★ 5.0 Stars: Exemplary Standard

Key Principles of Fair Usage.

  • Respect for copyright: Organizers should acknowledge and respect the photographer’s ownership of their work.
  • Limited use: Usage rights should be limited to purposes directly related to the marketing/promotion of the competition, photos and photographers.
  • Specific Usage: Detailed information regarding where the images will be used for the promotion of the competition, this should include websites, social media, partners website, media outlets, books & calendars etc.
  • Moral Rights: Photographers should be credited whenever their images are used. This includes publication and Media not owned by the organiser. Editing and manipulation of the images should be kept to a minimum.
  • License Duration: The usage license should be limited in time with a maximum of 5 years, but ideally less.
  • Compensation: Photographers should be compensated for commercial use of their images beyond promotional purposes. This can be detailed in the terms or by a separate agreement.

In essence, fair usage in a photo competition balances the organiser’s need to promote the competition, its winning entries and photographers, with the photographer’s right to control their work and receive any appropriate compensation.
