The AAP Street Photography Contest seeks to celebrate the tradition of urban photography, a genre that has documented the fast-paced life of towns and cities since the time of Louis Daguerre. Inspired by iconic photographers like Henri Cartier Bresson, Diane Arbus, and Vivian Maier, the competition is an open call for a cohesive body of work or portfolio that captures the essence of urban life.
Submissions should focus on the “weird and wonderful moments unfolding around you,” with the subject matter left entirely up to the photographer. The competition welcomes all capture methods and processes, including digital, analogue, and monochromatic toning.
By entering the street photo competition, you have a chance to get your work published in the next printed issue of AAP Magazine. As a winner, you will also receive a free copy of the magazine and will be permanently featured in the online winner’s gallery.
Entry Fees:
Submit up to 40 Images. Photographs will be judged individually in a first round, and then as a unified group of photos as they could be published in AAP Magazine.
Image requirements:
First Place:
Second Place:
Third Place:
Finalists:
The juror, who will score all the entries, will score each image between 1 and 5 for the first round. The judging process will be blind. No names or any kind of information will be given to the juror.
The 1 scores will be added to produce a final score out of 5.
The highest scoring images will then go through a second round to be re-scored between 1 and 7 by the juror on the panel, and the highest scoring image after this round will be deemed the first place winner, the second highest scoring image will be deemed the second place winner etc.
In the case of a tie the scores from the first round will be added to the scores of the second round. The Image with the highest overall score will be deemed the winner.
In the event that images are still tied at the end of the judging process, those images will be re-judged by a further independent judging panel to produce the winner.
AAP recognizes you, the author of the image, retain full ownership of the copyright in each Entry.
The full name of each entrant whose work is selected as a winner or finalist will be published online.
All entrants understand that any image submitted to the Competition may be used by AAP, and its Event Partners, for marketing and promotional purposes of the event only. AAP will always notify the owner of the photograph before any publication or inclusion is made.
You agree to participate in related publicity and to the use of Your name and likeness for the purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity without additional compensation.
You hereby grant AAP a non-exclusive license in each Entry throughout the world in all media for any use connected to the promotion of the Competition, including, but not limited too:
